A wind advisory is in effect for portions of Maui County and the Big Island through 10 p.m. tonight, Sunday, April 8, 2012.

Forecasters from the National Weather service say a shear line just north of Kauai will move south across the state through tonight before weakening.

Northeast winds will be strongest through channels, valleys and downslope along leeward areas.

Winds will be in the 30 mph range, with gusts up to 50 mph.

Forecasters say winds this strong can bring down tree branches, and make driving difficult for high profile vehicles.
