2012 Jazz and Blues Fest Friday, June 22 through Sunday, June 24 from Ka’anapali to Wailuku. 

The 2012 Maui Invitational Music Festival by non-profit group  Arts Education For Children Group (AECG) presents 3 days of live Jazz and Blues this weekend on the Valley Isle.

The festival celebrates America’s original music art forms. Most performances surrounding the event are free.

A schedule of festival events is presented below.

Friday at 6:30 p.m. – Colin John, Henry Allen, Gene Argel Trio, and Gwyn Gorg perform at Whaler’s Village.

Saturday at 6:30 p.m. – Iao Theater hosts a “Jazz and Blues All-Star concert” at Iao Theater, featuring Sacha Boutros, Rob Scheps, Mana’o Radio Blues Band, Vince Esquire, Gwyn Gorg, Colin John, and the Shiro Mori Trio. This event has a $10 entry fee.

SLAM! featuring David Choy and Kelly Covington play a late-night jazz show at Royal Lahaina Resort, starting at  9 p.m. with a $15 entry fee.

Sunday at 6 p.m. – The Hyatt Regency Maui hosts the last night of Jazz and Blues Fest 2012 with Henry Allen, Tropical Swing, and special guests Ginai, Sacha Boutros, Clay Mortenson, Rob Scheps, Omar & The Soultones, and more.

The Grouch & Eli Show Saturday, June 23 at 10 p.m. at Casanova’s in Makawao. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. 

Join Los Angeles hip-hop artists The Grouch and Eligh for a night of “conscious hip-hop” alongside Maui’s whistling wonder, Maesyn.

All three performers are versed in their art of underground rhymes and rhythms; they’ll bring a refreshing change of environment to Casanova’s with their unique selections.

Ki Hō‘alu  Guitar Festival Sunday, June 24 from 1 to 7 p.m. at the MACC in Kahului. Free.

Come and enjoy a free concert from some of Hawaii’s best kī hō‘alu (slack key) guitarists on the grass with island food vendors and until dusk.

Artists who are scheduled to perform include Brother Noland, Dennis Kamakahi, George Kahumoku, Nathan Aweau, Maunalua with Bobby Moderow, Stephen Inglis, Kawika Kahiapo, George Kuo, Hi‘ikua, Paul Togioka, LT Smooth, Keale, Ola Hou with Kevin & Ikaika Brown, Pancho Graham and Makana.

Community Events

Rotary Club Lahaina’s Sunset Fundraiser Friday, June 22 at Royal Lahaina Resort. Tickets are $50 in advance and $60. Tables of 10 are available for $450.

Rotary Club of Lahaina features a night of music from JD on the Rocks Band, free wine tasting, and gourmet pupus to raise funds for the beautification and modernization of Lahaina Public Library.

This will be the Rotary’s third-annual fundraiser for the library project. They hope to raise enough funds to complete it with this event so that they can move on to their next endeavor: re-landscaping the library’s front lawn.

5th Annual Honolua Beach Clean-Up & Party Saturday, June 23 at 8 a.m. at Honolua bridge in West Maui. 

All are welcome to show their appreciation of Honolua Bay with a morning beach clean-up near the portable toilets at Honolua bridge.

There will also be an after-party with live music and a BBQ in remembrance of surfer Ron Cassidy.

Don’t forget water, gloves, and plenty of sunscreen for the clean-up.

Morihara’s Kula Food Slam Sunday, June 24 from 3-8 p.m. at Morihara’s Store in Kula.

Upcountry’s Morihara general store hosts an afternoon and evening of food on the lawn from Pulehu Pizza, Da Puerto Rican Food Truck, Maui Preserved.

Morihara’s house chili will be served inside.

Parties

NLE Doll One Year Anniversary Party Friday, June 22 at 10 p.m. Ocean’s Bar & Grill in Kihei. No cover charge. 

Come to Maui south side for a party featuring beats from DJ LX, DJ Iggz, DJ Droc, Jay J and Mychael. There will also be in-club photographer Genevieve Derego, custom bra giveaways, and more by Dollz for Days.

Paia Fourth Friday Town Party Friday, June 22 from 6-9 p.m. in Paia Town on lower Baldwin Ave. 

This month’s Paia Fourth Friday Town Party is themed “Summer of Love” and features a town-sponsored fashion show at local burger spot Johnny B’s.

The show starts at 7:30 p.m. and includes selections from Paia shops Nuage Bleu, Biasa Rose, and Imrie. DJs Cosmic and Matt Lane will play live jams during and after the catwalk.

In Paia Fourth Friday’s habitual hub – the Indigo parking lot – Sandwich Island Bass tropical bass dance-music group hosts a party for their EP with free t-shirt giveaways.

Flatbread Pizza Co. Hosts a fundraiser for Maui County Junior Lifeguards, and to finish the night DJs Stylz and Kamikaze will play at Charley’s Restaurant & Saloon at 9:30 p.m.
