An afternoon accident in Waikapu on Maui was the result of a collision between a vehicle and a street sweeper.

Medics transported a 57-year-old woman to the hospital in stable condition after responding to the scene at 1:34 p.m., said Maui Paramedics Association spokesperson Ryan Joslin.

Upon arrival, medics found a silver sedan vehicle that had crashed into a street sweeper about a quarter mile south of the Kahili Golf Course on the Honoapiilani Highway.

Maui police are alternating traffic on the Honoapiilani Highway (30) between the Kuihelani Highway and the entrance to the Kahili Golf Course at 1:44 p.m.

The partial closure is due to a motor vehicle accident.

Officials say the road will re-open once the vehicles involved in the accident have been removed.

At 2 p.m., police were alternating traffic.
