A September 11, Maui tribute will be held at the Westin Ka’anapali Ocean Resort Villas with a special ceremony at 7:45 a.m.

The event pays tribute to the families, volunteers and servicemen who responded during the terror attacks on September 11, 2001.

Those participating in the 11th anniversary event include island first responders, as well as government and community leaders.

The Maui venue is at the beach fronting Kai Lani Lawn at The Westin Ka’anapali Ocean Resort Villas in West Maui.

Flags were also ordered to fly at half-staff today at state and county buildings in observance of Patriot Day, and National Day of Service and Remembrance.

The observance honors individuals who lost their lives on September 11, 2001 and includes a moment of silence beginning at 8:46 a.m. Eastern Daylight time to honor the victims who died as a result of the terror attacks on that day.
