Island Air Disconfirms Reports of Flight Disruptions

Island Air, a regional Hawaii airline, today reported that it will be operating all of its aircraft and anticipates no disruptions to its flights over the coming weekend, contrary to press reports yesterday.

“It’s business as usual for Island Air this weekend. We look forward to welcoming all guests who have booked a flight with us,” said Les Murashige, the president of Island Air, in a written statement.

On Wednesday, acting on limited information, there were reports in the press (not Maui Now) that suggested the airline may have to cancel or consolidate flights.

“Our team has worked hard to find a solution and we will be operating at full strength this weekend and growing thereafter,” said Michael Rodyniuk, Executive Vice Chairman of Gavarnie Holding LLC, the parent company of Island Air.

Island Air apparently operates two DHC-8 (Dash 8) turboprop aircraft which seat 37 passengers. The airline also said that they will commence operations with their first ATR72 jetprop aircraft as early as next week.

Last month, Island Air was reportedly sold to Larry Ellison, the billionaire and chief executive officer of Oracle, Corp. who also bought most of the island of Lanai last year.
