Allegiant Air to Stop Service from Seven Markets

The Honolulu-Star Advertiser is reporting today that Allegiant Air plans to cease flights temporarily to Hawaii from seven mainland cities.
A spokeswoman for Allegiant Air told the newspaper that it will halt flights beginning Aug. 14 from Boise, Idaho; Eugene, Ore.; Phoenix, Ariz.; Spokane, Wash.; and Fresno, Stockton and Santa Maria, Calif.
“It’s a seasonal hiatus,” said Jessica Wheeler, a spokeswoman for Allegiant Air, in a report to the Honolulu-Star Advertiser.
Wheeler explained that since their business model is to match their product to demand, and since Allegiant Air caters to the leisure traveler, the company expects September and October to slow down when kids go back to school and there is not a lot of vacation travel.
The Honolulu-Las Vegas and the Maui/Honolulu-Bellingham, Washington routes will not be affected by this change, according to the report.
Wheeler also mentioned that although the company has no set date of return for the affected routes, she anticipates they will all return for the holiday season at the end of the year.
