A 38-year-old man from California died after being found and pulled from the water at the Pools of ʻOheʻo in the Kīpahulu district of East Maui on Friday afternoon, officials said.
Hāna firefighters were dispatched to the scene along with personnel from Rescue-10 and Air-1 out of Kahului, to respond to a report of a missing swimmer at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 30, 2013.
Fire crews arrived to find MPD personnel performing CPR on the victim next to the shore of the pool, said Maui Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga.
According to Mainaga, the victim was pulled from the water by bystanders. He said fire and medic units took over performing CPR, but were unsuccessful in resuscitating the victim.
Authorities say medics pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
