A brush fire in West Maui on Saturday burned an estimated 1/4-acre of brush behind the Lahaina Aquatic Center before being brought under control, officials said.

The incident was reported at around 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19, in an area of brush near the intersection of Shaw and Mill Streets.

Firefighters from Engine 3, Ladder 3, Tanker 3, and Engine 11 responded to the report of an old pump house structure on fire, according to fire department reports.

When crews arrived on scene, they found an area of brush on fire adjacent to the abandoned structure, which was not involved, fire officials said.

The fire was extinguished within about a half an hour.  The cause was undetermined.
