The University of Hawaiʻi Maui College will host a Career and Innovation Day to showcase showcase student projects in science and technology, and offer career guidance in hi-tech fields.

The all-day event takes place on Nov. 22, and includes information booths, project exhibitions, keynote speeches, and panel discussions.

Some of the innovative projects to be featured at the event include: a biosphere, a smart-board application that can transform any surface into an interactive display, and a banana piano that uses bananas as keystrokes.

“Groups presenting projects include student members of The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, UHMC branch; members of Maui Makers, a maker space on the Island of Maui; and the Maui Ham Radio Club, a local network of HAM radio operators,” a UHMC announcement said.

Panel discussion will include conversation on what the future holds for careers in science and technology, as well as focused discussion on the business of start-ups.

“Counselors from various academic programs such as Engineering Technology, Sustainable Science Management and Applied Business and Information Technology will be on hand to advise on different baccalaureate and associate degrees available at UHMC and in the UH System,” university officials said in an announcement.

“The innovations and ideas that the students have here at UHMC have extraordinary potential. The event is where students can showcase their hard work and skills and offer them to the community,” said Lindsay Komai, student chair of the Innovation Day event in a UH press release statement.  “I’m excited to be a part of the technological movement,” she said.
