Repeat Fire at Kailana Street Home

Fire investigators say the cause of a fire at a Paukukalo home was most likely accidental in nature.

The two-story home, located at 590 Kailana Place, sustained an estimated $120,000 in damage to the structure, and $20,000 to its contents, according to updated department reports.

The fire was reported on Friday, Jan. 3, but firefighters returned on Monday, Jan. 6, to douse the home again when flames were seen coming from the second story of the structure.

Firefighters returned a Kailana Street home in Paukukalo today after receiving reports of flames coming from the two-story structure.

This is the same residence that caught on fire three days earlier on Friday, Jan. 3, displacing six residents from the home.

Today’s fire was reported at 1:44 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, at the home located at 590 Kailana Street.

Upon arrival fire fighters found the structure about 25% involved in fire with the fire located on the second floor at the rear of the residence, said Maui Fire Captain Bram DenHaan.

According to Department reports, crews were able to contain the fire to its origin, and bring the fire under control by 1:58 p.m.

The cause of both fires remained under investigation at last report by police and fire investigators, and estimated damages had not yet been determined.
