An estimated 676 electric customers lost power for several hours overnight following a motor vehicle accident that damaged a utility pole in Kāʻanapali.

The incident was reported at 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 15, and the majority of customers had power restored by 3:40 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 16, said Maui Electric Company spokesperson Kauʻi Awai-Dickson.

The remaining customers were brought back online at 9:54 a.m., said Awai-Dickson.

Maui police closed a portion of Puʻukoliʻi Road between Pʻuu Hale Place to Honoapiʻilani Highway in Kāʻanapali for several hours while crews from Maui Electric Company conducted repairs.

The road was reopened at 11:30 a.m.
