The incident was reported at 7:45 p.m. on Sunday, April 6, 2014, abut 1.7 miles south of Kealakapu Road near mile post 20 of the Kula Highway.

Police say the 1999 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck was being operated by another 23-year-old man, and was traveling north on the Kula Highway when the incident occurred.

According to a report filed by Sergeant William Hankins with the Maui Police Department’s Vehicle Homicide Section, the involvement of speed, drugs, and alcohol has not been determined as the investigation is still pending.
