A wind advisory has been extended for the islands within Maui County through 6 p.m. on Monday, April 21, 2014.

Forecasters with the National Weather Service say northeast winds are expected to be in the 20 to 35 mph range today with gusts over 50 mph.

The NWS says winds will be concentrated over the Islands of Lānaʻi and Kahoʻolawe, and the West Maui Mountains and Central Valley area of Maui.

Agency officials say winds this strong can bring down tree branches and make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
