The County of Maui announced it has received a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada for its annual financial report.
“The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management,” said Stephen Gauthier, GFOA’s Technical Services Center Director in a County press release.
“We hope that the County of Maui’s example will encourage other government officials in their efforts to achieve and maintain an appropriate standard of excellence in financial reporting,” he said.
County officials say an Award of Financial Reporting Achievement was also presented to accounting system administrator Wayne Y. Fujita, the individual primarily responsible for preparing the award-winning CAFR.
As part of the selection, agencies were evaluated on how they met standards including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the comprehensive annual financial report.
The Government Finance Officers Association is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals.
