Kula Association to Discuss Upcountry Water, Schools

Education updates and water issues facing the Upcountry area of Maui will be the focus of discussion at the upcoming meeting of the Kula Community Association, scheduled to take place on Wednesday, Sept. 17 at the Kula Community Center.

“Upcountry’s lack of water has been a controversial issue for a long time,” said KCA board member Dick Mayer in announcing the meeting.  “Droughts, reservoirs, water meters, agricultural water rates and water lines have been subjects of concern. County Council Chair Gladys Baisa and the Council’s Water Resource committee Chair Mike Victorino will update us on their perspective on these issues and future county plans.”

The meeting will also feature discussion with principals of Kula Elementary, Kalama Intermediate, and King Kekaulike High School, who will update attendees on campus news, academic programs, a new Upcountry theatre at the high school, and traffic issues.

Board members say this is a unique opportunity to hear directly from school leaders.

The meeting is open to members of the Upcountry community and will begin with refreshments at 6:30 p.m., followed by presentations at 7 p.m.
