Maui Fire Department Announces 4 Promotions

Maui Fire Chief Jeffrey Murray today announced the promotion of four individuals within the department.
The list of promotions includes Greg Jenkins and Rylan Yatsushiro to the rank of Captain, and Jorgen Busby and Peter Gand to the rank of Firefighter III.
Department officials provided the following background information on the newly promoted individuals:
Greg Jenkins: joined the department on April 1, 1996. He worked his first assignment as a firefighter with Engine 9 on Molokaʻi at the Hoʻolehua Fire Station. At various ranks throughout his career, he worked at the Kaunakakai and Pukoʻo Fire Stations on Molokaʻi; as well as on Maui, at the Nāpili Fire Station and in the Hazardous Materials/Training Bureau. In 2005, Jenkins was promoted to Firefighter III-Driver. Under his latest promotion, Jenkins will return to the Ho‘olehua Fire Station on Engine 9, B Watch, where he served out his first assignment 18 years ago. Jenkins was promoted to the rank of Captain on Sept. 16, 2014.
Rylan Yatsushiro: was promoted from Firefighter III to Captain on Sept. 16, 2014. Yatsushiro served 12 ½ years in the department. His career started in 2002 at Engine 7 in Hāna, where he served for about six months before transferring to Engine 5 in Makawao. Yatsushiro spent eight years in Makawao before being promoted to a Firefighter III in 2011. As a Firefighter III, he was assigned to the Training Bureau as a Recruit Trainer and a Driver on Engine 14 in Wailea. He has since been assigned to Captain of the Training Bureau.
Jorgen Busby: is from Molokaʻi and joined the department on May 3, 1999. For his entire 15 year career, Busby has been stationed there at the Hoʻolehua Fire Station (Engine 9, C Watch). Busby’s latest promotion to Firefighter III takes effect on Oct. 1, 2014. Under his new promotion, Jorgen will be assigned to the Kaunakakai Fire Station, also on Molokaʻi as part of Engine 4, A Watch.
Peter Gand: was hired on April 1, 2005, as part of the 23rd Recruit Class. After a short stint of two months at the Hoʻolehua Fire Station, he transferred to Nāpili for two years. From Nāpili, Gand moved to the Lahaina Fire Station where he spent the last seven years. His latest promotion to Firefighter III takes effect on Oct. 1, 2014.
