Upon arrival, police made checks of both campuses, clearing both Maui High School and Kahului Elementary School.  Police also looked into reports of suspicious individuals near campus as part of the investigation.

Police deemed that the schools were safe at 10:30 a.m., and the lockdown was lifted at that time.

Lieutenant Juan said an investigation revealed that there were no threats at the schools and the incident was determined to be unfounded.

Sources tell us that the precaution was due to a suspicious individual(s) in the area.

Some parents of students at Maui High School say they received a pre-recorded message from the school this morning indicating that a lockdown was in place, and informing them NOT to pickup their kids from school.

The message further stated that police are on scene and will inform them when the situation has been cleared.

Further details on what caused the lockdown status are pending release.

***Check back for further details, which will be posted as they become available.
