Maui Police Launch Maliko Murder Investigation

Maui police launched a murder investigation after finding a Maui man unresponsive with suspicious injuries off of the Hāna Highway in Maliko Gulch on Thursday.

Police say Wailuku Patrol officers responded to the scene near Mile 10 of the highway at around 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 11, 2014.  Maui police Lt. William Juan said the victim was confirmed dead at the scene.

Police have since identified the victim as Derrick M.H. Kualaau, 56, of Maliko.

The case has since been turned over to the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.

Police say no further information is available at this time.
