Ebb & Flow Ensemble to Perform at The MACC

The Maui Arts & Cultural Center will present the Ebb & Flow Ensemble on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015, at 5 p.m. in the McCoy Studio Theater. Pre-concert discussion begins at 4 p.m.

Ebb & Flow Ensemble is comprised of members of Hawai‘i Symphony: Ethan Pernela, viola; principal cellist Joanna Morrison-Pernela; violin, concert master Ignace Jang; Helen Liu, violin; and principal oboist Scott Janusch.

Works will include Benjamin Britten’s “Phantasy Oboe Quartet” and Jean Francaix’s “Cor Anglais (English Horn) Quartet.”


Also on the program are works by Mario Davidovsky, including his Pulitzer Prize-winning “Synchronisms #6” for piano and electronic sounds, with special video by Peter Swanzy, the world premiere of Robert Pollock’s “Piano Quartet” and an award-winning “String Quartet” by Neil McKay, Hawai‘i’s “dean” of composers,

“Miraculously, we are presented by The MACC for the eighth time since 2001,” said E&FA Executive Director Pollock. “We are delighted to help celebrate recent centenaries of Benjamin Britten (2013), and Jean Francaix (2012). After 100 years, they have  officially become classical composers!”
