By Maui Now Staff
On Thursday, Feb. 5, 2015, at approximately 10:23 a.m., Maui Police Department’s Wailuku Patrol located and arrested Longs robbery suspect John Naauao Jr., 28, of Kula. Naauao has been charged with “Robbery in the First Degree.” Bail is set at $50,000.00.
On Feb. 2 at approximately 8:27 p.m., “a local-looking male” jumped over pharmacy counter at Longs Drugs in Kulamalu brandishing a black handgun. He pointed the gun at pharmacists and demanded “oxys” (Oxycodone).
The pharmacist did not resist. The suspect grabbed an undisclosed amount of the opioid and fled on foot in an unknown direction.
Police responded and canvassed the area, but were unable to locate the suspect until yesterday.
“A few Maui doctors have created a large number of prescription narcotic addicts who will become increasingly desperate to get their fix,” said a Maui pharmacist, who requested anonymity. “This puts all of our pharmacy employees at risk. This is a very serious problem on Maui.”
Naauao was also arrested for “Felon in Possession of a Firearm,” “Use of Firearm in the Commission of a Separate Felony” and “Place to Keep Pistol or Revolver.”
He was released pending further investigation. There is no further information at this time as the investigation continues.
