Residents in some areas of Makawao on Maui did not have their trashed picked up as scheduled on Monday, Feb. 23, due to mechanical problems, county officials announced.

The County of Maui Department of Environmental Management, Solid Waste Division, announced that the missed collection affected the following areas:  Auoli Drive; Baldwin, Kealaloa and Makawao avenues; Hoʻolai and Mahola streets; Kekona, Miner, Onipaʻa, Pāmakani, Pelenaka, Piʻikea and Puʻāina places; Olinda Road; and all surrounding streets.

Department officials say they expect to have the missed routes picked up on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2015.

The department apologized for the inconvenience and thanked the community for their understanding and cooperation.
