wailuku gas 3 19 2015By Maui Now Staff

Average gas prices in Wailuku have leveled off, rising only one cent to $3.22 over the last week, according to the AAA Hawaiʻi Weekend Gas Watch. The average price is 12 cents higher than last month, but $1.09 less than one year ago.

Prices statewide are following the same trend, remaining level after several weeks of consecutive increases. The current average for a gallon of regular gas is $3.14, steady from last week, and 12 cents more than last month. The average statewide per gallon of regular gas is $1.03 lower than one year ago.

“The price of oil has decreased in recent days, so that should contribute to lower prices at the pump, keeping gas price averages much lower than they were a year ago,” said AAA Hawaiʻi General Manager Liane Sumida. “Average gas prices for the mainland have stalled or seen relatively small changes. California remains the only other state with a gas price average higher than $3, with an average price of $3.32. Many other states have seen prices begin to flatten or drop in recent days.”
