The Coast Guard is seeking the public’s help in identifying the owner of an adrift dive float located approximately 50 yards offshore of Mākena Landing in South Maui on Wednesday, April 8, 2015.

The dive float was recovered by a mariner at around 12 p.m. and reported to watchstanders in at the Coast Guard Sector Honolulu Command Center.

A 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew from Maui is currently on scene conducting a search of the area.  A search of the parking lot was conducted by crews from the Maui Fire Department.

Anyone with information that may help to identify the owner of the dive float is asked to contact the Coast Guard Sector Honolulu Command Center at (808) 842-2600.

The agency took the opportunity to provide information on its Operation Paddle Smart Program that offers free “If Found” decals that can be placed on small, human-powered watercraft.

The labels include contact information so that authorities can quickly account for owners and prevent any unnecessary searches.

“The stickers can be obtained for free at local harbormasters, through the Coast Guard Auxiliary, from Honolulu Sail and Power Squadron offices and at select marine retail and supply stores,” said Coast Guard representatives in an agency press release.
