Maui County Graduates Receive Josh Jerman Maui Nui Scholarships

Three Maui County high school graduates have been awarded $1,000 each by the Josh Jerman Maui Nui Scholarship program.

This year’s recipients are Sarah Jenkins from Moloka‘i High School, Marc Pader from Lāna‘i High School and Ja‘ie Victorine-Dyment from Hāna High and Elementary School.

In the fall, Jenkins will attend Duke University, where she plans to study environmental engineering. Pader will  attend the University of Nevada, with plans to major in architecture. Victorine-Dyment will attend the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo, where she will pursue a degree in psychology.

“This scholarship will help me go to college and learn the skills necessary to help Lana‘i’s economy,” said Pader. “I was really happy to find out that I’d been selected.”

Victorine-Dyment said the scholarship will help her achieve her academic goals.

“Every penny counts and with this scholarship, I will be that much closer to obtaining my goal of going to college and getting a degree that can help me have a positive future,” Victorine-Dyment said. “This program is such a great opportunity and it has opened so many doors and possibilities—not only for me, but for my peers as well.”

Jenkins is also grateful to be one this year’s scholarship recipients.

“It is always an honor to get any type of recognition for hard work and dedication in accomplishing my personal and academic goals; however, I believe getting a scholarship is an investment in me as a person,” Jenkins said. “I now have a tool to develop myself as a person and as a professional, which I can then use to come back home to Maui Nui and make a even greater impact within my community. This scholarship program has inspired students like myself to pursue an education by giving us financial aid. Josh [Jerman] is investing in the student leaders of the future who will affect change in their surrounding communities. For me personally, this scholarship is allowing me to have the choice between choosing the college of my dreams versus another college.”

Josh Jerman, an award-winning, top-producing real estate broker on Maui since 2004,  is the founder of the Josh Jerman Maui Nui Scholarship and a benefactor of several local nonprofit organizations and charities.

“Particularly impressive this year were the number of strong applications from Hāna, Moloka‘i and Lāna‘i,” said Jerman. “Their teachers and counselors are doing a fantastic job encouraging students to apply for scholarships. The students are bright, consciousness and forward-thinking. We are fortunate to have young adults such as these with their eyes turned toward Maui Nui.”

Now in its eleventh consecutive year, the Josh Jerman Maui Nui Scholarship program has provided scholarships to college-bound students who will attend a full-time program at an accredited four-year college or university.

To date, the program has awarded more than $35,000 in scholarships to Maui, Moloka‘i and Lāna‘i high school seniors who have displayed a passion for returning to Maui County after college to contribute to the community.
