“Aloha ʻĀina – Haleakalā to Mauna a Wākea” Event at UHMC

A public talk and educational event entitled “Aloha ʻĀina – Haleakalā to Mauna a Wākea” will be held at the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College’s Ka Lama Building courtyard on Friday, June 5, 2015 beginning at 4 p.m.
The event includes sign making, sign waiving, kīhei and shirt printing, a pūʻohe crafting workshop, and a public talk set to start at 6 p.m.
Scheduled speakers include:
- Kahoʻokahi Kanuha & Hualalai Keohuloa from Mauna Kea;
- Kaleikoa Kaʻeo, longtime activist and kumu at UHMC; and
- Kīʻope Raymond, Kilakila ʻo Haleakalā & UHMC.
Discussion will include updates on the Thirty Meter Telescope and activity at Maunakea since the governor’s recent announcement about stewardship changes at the site.
Event organizers note that kīhei and shirt printing is limited to one per person, and participants must bring their own garment and be present to pickup their clothing after printing.
