By Maui Now Staff
A workline inmate at the Maui Community Correctional Center was captured during an attempted escape this morning.
Public Safety Department officials say Edward Morgan was cleaning inside the front gatehouse and managed to slip out the front door behind a civilian who walked in at around 8:40 a.m. on Monday, June 15, 2015.
Department spokesperson Toni Schwartz said two corrections officers pursued Morgan and caught him a couple blocks from the facility.
Morgan is now in the custody of Maui police, pending an escape charge.
Morgan is serving time for Burglary and Theft. His sentence was scheduled to end date in December of this year.
Worklines are made up of community custody inmates who work at the facility.
Authorities say the incident remains under investigation.
