Tai Chi for Arthritis Classes to Begin in July
By Maui Now Staff
The Maui Historical Society will present “Tai Chi for Arthritis, 6 Basic Movements” at the Bailey House Museum with Leola Muromoto and Cathy Kewiki on six Mondays, July 6, 13, 20 and 27, and August 3 and 10, from 10 to 11 a.m.
These special warm-up and stretching exercises work six different parts of the body with two different stretches for each body part.
The “Tai Chi for Arthritis Program,” developed by Dr. Paul Lam, is based on his personal experience of how tai chi helped relieve his own osteoarthritis pain. Exercise is an essential part of managing the pain and stiffness caused by arthritis.
While some tai chi forms require that students complete a complex series of movements with perfect form, “Tai Chi for Arthritis” participants are asked to do their best and have fun.
A $20 registration fee supports the Maui Historical Society.
To register, call (808) 244-3326 during museum business hours, Monday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., or go online or email the museum for more information.
The Bailey House Museum is located at 2375A Main St. in Wailuku.
