UPDATE: Woman Dies After Being Struck by Vehicle Driven by 11-year-old Boy

An 87-year-old Haʻikū woman died over the weekend after being struck by a sedan that was driven by an 11-year-old boy, Maui police confirmed this morning.

Maui police also identified the victim as Sueno Saito, and say the woman and the boy are related.

The incident occurred in the parking lot of the Nisei Veterans Memorial Center in Kahului on Saturday afternoon.

According to police reports, the sedan driven by the boy backed out of a marked stall and struck the woman who was standing near the vehicle.

Police say the cause of death has not been determined pending autopsy results.

This was Maui County’s 13th fatality for 2015, compared to 14 at the same time last year.
