Active Shooter Exercises Planned at Four Maui Schools: July 27 & 28

Members of the Maui Police Department and Department of Education, will be participating in Joint Agency Emergency Preparedness Exercises today and tomorrow at a total of four Maui schools, police announced today.

The first exercise will commence on Monday, July 27, 2015, at the Maui High School, located at 660 South Lono Avenue, Kahului, from 8 to 11 a.m.

Also on Monday, July 27, 2015, a similar exercise will be conducted in the afternoon between 12 and 2 p.m. at the Waihee School, located at 2125 Kahekili Hwy., Wailuku.

On Tuesday, July 28, 2015, exercises are planned in the morning from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Pukalani Elementary School, located at 2945 Iolani Street, Makawao; and in the afternoon from 12 to 2 p.m. at Makawao Elementary School, located at 3542 Baldwin Ave, Makawao.


The public is advised that police will be in full gear and will have several of their emergency response vehicles parked at the school during the exercise.


The training will include simulated gunfire and shouting.

A letter from the State Department of Education advises that if you see anything posted on social media… please be advised that this is an approved exercise.

“It is intended to help our faculty and staff address and deal with high stress type of situations, so we can better support the safety (of) our students in school,” the letter stated.
