Weak Winds Allow for Land/Sea Breeze Patterns Today

The High Surf Warning has been cancelled and replaced by a High Surf Advisory. The advisory is posted for the south facing shores of all islands in Maui County through 6:00 a.m. Tuesday. Wave heights of 8 to 12 foot faces are forecasted. Expect strong breaking waves, shore break and strong longshore and rip currents making swimming difficult and dangerous.
A Marine Weather Statement has also been issued. The National Weather Service says “a long period south swell will continue to generate moderate surges in south facing harbors. Additionally, waves my break in and near channel entrances through Monday.”

Today we expect high temperatures from 86° to 91°. East winds are expected around 15 mph becoming light and variable. Mostly sunny skies with scattered morning showers for windward and mauka areas. Leeward spots will be mostly sunny with isolated morning showers and scattered afternoon showers.

Tonight
East winds are expected around 15 mph tonight. Partly cloudy skies are expected with isolated leeward showers and scattered windward showers. Low temperatures from 72° to 77° are expected.
Looking Ahead
The trade winds are expected to be weak through Monday, allowing local nighttime land breezes and afternoon sea breezes to form, mainly across leeward areas. Moderate trade winds will return by the middle of the new work week.
