(Update: 9/20/15)

On Saturday evening, 9/19/15, firefighters on Molokaʻi responded to a single-story residential structure fire on Kamiloloa Place in Kaunakakai. Firefighters received the call at 8:49 p.m. and arrived at 8:52 p.m. The Kaunakakai crew reported defensive fire conditions, indicating a structure fully engulfed in flames. It was later discovered that only the garage was on fire. The fire was called under control at 9:45 p.m. and extinguished at 11:33 p.m.

The occupants, a couple in their late seventies and a female friend who stopped by to visit, were in the main 12046826_10154218961119867_8708397049784241065_nhouse. Police officers first on scene, ran to the home to alert the homeowners. They eventually pulled the female homeowner and the female friend out through a bedroom window. Firefighters arrived and located the remaining male occupant and brought the man out through a rear exit.

The two women were taken to Molokai General Hospital for smoke inhalation and minor injuries. The male occupant was evaluated by paramedics and released at the scene.

The fire was contained to the garage area and did not spread to the main living area of the home. An aircraft fuselage and other items stored in the garage were destroyed in the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation and damage estimates were not available.

Crews from Kaunakakai, Hoolehua, and Pukoo responded to fire.
