VIDEO: Man Arrested During Pāʻia Altercation
Maui police arrested a man in Pāʻia on Wednesday morning following reports of a fight between the suspect and a Kahului woman. The arrest was captured on video, which shows the suspect in a heated confrontation with police.
Police were called to the Shell gas station along the Hāna Highway at around 8:02 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 9, for a report of a fight between the man, identified as Keola Vasconcellos, 37, and a 45-year-old Kahului woman, who police identified as a victim.
Police say the report alleged that Vasconcellos allegedly hit the woman. Officers arriving on scene reportedly found the victim with multiple injuries.
During the course of the investigation police say Vasconcellos was yelling and resisting the officer’s attempt to place him under arrest. Maui Police Lieutenant William Juan issued a press release saying the responding officer eventually placed Vasconcellos in handcuffs without any injuries.
Vasconcellos was arrested for alleged: abuse of a family and or household member; physical with injury; resisting arrest, and for an outstanding warrant.
Fire personnel were summoned to assist in treating the female victim who was treated and released at the scene.
Bail for Vasconcellos was set at $2,200.
Vasconcellos was the same man arrested earlier this year for alleged abuse of his girlfriend following an argument at a Pāʻia home on Tuesday morning, Sept. 15, 2015. During that incident, police reports indicate that the victim, identified as a 45-year-old woman, reported that she was allegedly “stabbed multiple times” by her boyfriend following an argument.
