Kīhei Structure Fire Causes in $400,000 Damage to Kauhale Street Home

A home fire in Kīhei caused an estimated $400,000 in damage to a single-story residence located at 2763 Kauhale Street, fire officials said.

The fire was reported at 8:03 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 24, 2015. Maui Fire Services Officer Edward Taomoto said that when Wailea firefighters arrived on scene at 8:08 p.m. they found the home about 75% involved by flames.

According to department reports, two females who occupy the 720-square-foot home were at church when the fire broke out, and no injuries were reported.

Fire officials say personnel from the American Red Cross was dispatched to the scene, however the occupants did not require any assistance.

Maui Fire Captain Paul Haake said damages were estimated at $300,000 to the structure and $100,000 to its contents.

According to department reports, a fire investigator was dispatched, however the cause of the fire was not determined. Fire officials say that during the investigation, there was no evidence discovered to suggest the fire was intentionally set.

Fourteen personnel on two engines, a ladder company, a water tanker, and a battalion chief out of Wailea, Kīhei and Kahului responded to the fire.
