Person Found Floating Unresponsive Near DT Fleming Beach

At 11:49 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 25, emergency crews were dispatched to someone reportedly floating face down in the water near DT Fleming Beach Park, in Kapalua, fire officials said.

When firefighters arrived on scene at 11:58 a.m., ocean safety personnel had already retrieved the person and were on the beach performing CPR.

Firefighters and paramedics continued life-saving measures; however, the victim could not be revived and died at the scene, according to department reports.

Bystanders walking on Makaluapuna Point on the west side of DT Fleming Beach Park reported the incident to authorities. Ocean Safety personnel on rescue watercraft found the victim at the tip of Makaluapuna Point, loaded the individual onto their rescue sled and brought the person to shore.

Nāpili firefighters and ocean safety officers from DT Fleming Beach responded to the incident.
