Good Luck Maui: Hawaiʻi ACT Exam is March 1, 2016

On Tuesday, March 1, 2016, 11th graders throughout our state will be taking the American College Testing exam, commonly referred to as the ACT.

The test helps schools measure student progress and college readiness. The ACT is designed to assess what high school students have learned in school.

ACT results can be used for college admission or scholarships and are accepted by virtually all US colleges and universities.

Eighth graders throughout the state will be taking the ACT Aspire. ACT Aspire not only serves as a practice for the ACT, but also shows growth and progress toward College and Career Readiness Standards as well as Common Core Standards starting at Grade 3.

Students, parents and school teachers and administrators can use the data to track a student’s growth throughout the years.

In August last year the Hawaiʻi DOE reported, “eleventh grade students saw a substantial increase in statewide ACT attainment rate rising from 36% in 2014 to 39% in 2015.”

During the same period, Maui High School scores saw a 17% increase from 2014 to 2015.  “We are eager to maintain a positive momentum in our school and as a state,” said Stacy Woodson, Maui High School Parent Community Networking Center Coordinator in an email communication.
