The congregation at Makawao Union Church is gearing up for a Centennial Celebration, that will culminate with a birthday party scheduled in September of 2017.
As the 100 year celebration nears, members have also organized other fundraisers and celebratory events leading up to the anniversary date.
On Sunday, April 3, 2016, a Centennial Choral Celebration will be held, featuring 50 singers, instrumentalists, hula and the largest pipe organ on Maui with the sound of the original pipes that haven’t been heard in a generation.
World-renowned organist Mark Thallander and choristers from Maui and the Mainland will begin the event at 6:30 p.m. A free-will offering is requested.
On Saturday, April 16, 2016, members host a MUC’n’Stuff Spring Fair 2016 with a rummage sale, arts & crafts, bake sale, food booths, entertainment and door prizes. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Parking and entry are free.
The celebrations will continue for the next 18 months, including special services, a Hawaiian blessing, a special feature in the Maui News, and a centennial calendar featuring photographs and paintings from some of Maui’s finest artists.
