Dear Mayor Arakawa,
Q: Why are all the fields and the grass dead at Kilohana Dog Park? Why are there no lights at night anymore?
A: Irrigation/R-1 water and fresh water have been issues at this park in Wailea, including vandalism of the irrigation timers. Parks staff have corrected all irrigation concerns, including the repairing and rerouting of the main line.
It was discovered that vandals had removed the wiring leading to the battery timers, which then needed to be replaced and a lock installed. The irrigation is currently working and the fields should green up soon.
Unfortunately, vandals also damaged the drinking fountain beyond repair; an ADA drinking fountain will be installed soon.
While there are no field lights at Kilohana, parks staff will be checking on the walking lights.
