“We all know that affordable housing is in such demand here on Maui and on Lānaʻi”, said Sherri K. Habitat for Humanity Maui builds and renovates housing for low income families. They issue a 0% interest loan to the family but all the labor for projects is done by volunteers. Organization leaders say this allows them to provide affordable housing and repairs to the neediest of families.

The beneficiary families must also put in “sweat equity” into the building of their home. Habitat leaders say, “This allows the community to work alongside our partner families,” and, “creates a sense of community,” where partner families can learn valuable skills as they learn every aspect of building.
