Kīhei-based executive search firm R.F. Chapman & Co. marks 30 years in business this year.
The father-and-son team of Mike and Bob Chapman run the company, which specializes in recruiting top management talent for premier hotels and restaurants in Hawai‘i.
To date, the firm has placed more than 500 executives, filling critical positions such as general manager, director of finance, director of sales and marketing, food and beverage director, executive chef, HR director and chief engineer.
Clients include Fairmont Kea Lani, Montage Kapalua Bay, Starwood, Hilton Hawaiian Village, Ritz-Carlton, Prince Hotels and Resorts and Aqua-Aston Hospitality.
Restaurants they have worked with include Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse, Roy’s Kā‘anapali, Sansei and Feast at Lele, among others.
“We’re proud to be among the top eight search and recruitment firms in Hawai‘i, and the only one specializing exclusively in tourism in the areas of hotels, restaurants and retail,” said R.F. Chapman & Co. President Bob Chapman, who has 32 years of industry experience. “That’s pretty darn good for two guys on Maui. My son and I find nothing more rewarding than filling a position with a candidate who is genuinely excited about a new opportunity and challenge.”
Bob Chapman got his start in Phoenix working for a recruitment firm that had offices in 29 cities. After two years, he opened up his own company, bringing it to Hawai‘i in 1987.
Mike Chapman joined his father three years ago.
Together, the pair brings more than 35 years of industry experience, placing dozens of executives in top-tier companies each year.
The elder Chapman said the best candidates are those working hard for their present companies and not looking at employment ads. On average, the company places about 25 executives a year. Salaries range from $60,000 to $150,000.
