HCF & Guests to Celebrate 100th Anniversary April 16

The Hawai‘i Community Foundation will host its Centennial Gala at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center on Saturday, April 16, to celebrate its history and the impact individuals and organizations have made on Maui County.

For the past 100 years, HCF, the leading philanthropic institution in the state, has helped generous people and organizations find ways to make a meaningful difference in our island communities.

As HCF embarks on its next 100 years, the organization is focused on ensuring that giving continues for the next 100 years through its Legacy of Giving campaign.

There are more than 53 funds to benefit Maui, Moloka‘i and Lāna‘i, including the Mary Josephine Bloder Scholarship Fund and the Lāna‘i Community Benefit Fund.

HCF is a steward of more than 700 funds, including more than 200 scholarship funds created by donors who desire to transform lives and improve communities.

In 2015, HCF distributed more than $46 million in grants and contracts statewide, including $4.5 million in scholarships.

HCF also serves as a resource on community issues and trends in the nonprofit sector.

The celebration will bring together more than 200 invited guests—business leaders and community members who have demonstrated their commitment to giving or have directly benefited from the generosity of others.

Guests will be treated to an evening filled with entertainment by local artists Joel Katz, Hula Honeys and Soul Kitchen and a performance by Kealoha, Hawai‘i first poet laureate.

The event will also feature an exhibit by local artists, including Maui’s Pohaku Kaho‘ohanohano that was commissioned by HCF through a partnership with the Native Arts & Cultures Foundation.

Attendees will also be able to view HCF’s Gallery of Giving, a visual journey that takes guests through the history of philanthropy in Hawai‘i.
