Maui firefighters doused a brush fire on the Pāʻia side of Maliko Gulch at 3:08 p.m. on Thursday, May 5, 2016.

Department officials say the fire is believed to have rekindled from a fire first reported in the same area last week Friday, April 29th.

Personnel from Hawaiian Commercial and Sugar Company used a water tanker to knock down flames before fire crews arrived.

Maui Fire Services Chief Edward Taomoto said the department’s fire engine was unable to access the overgrown cane field road with their fire engine, so the Department’s mini-pumper from the Pāʻia station was used to mop-up the fire.

The fire was called extinguished at 4:53 p.m.
