Twin Faces Murder Charge in Death of Sister, SUV Driven off 200 Foot Maui Cliff

One twin is dead and her surviving sister is being charged with murder. Maui Now has obtained information containing new details in the deadly crash reported last week in the remote Puʻuiki area of East Maui, in which a vehicle plunged 200 feet off a cliff from the Hāna Highway.

Alexandria Duval (also known as Allison Dadow), 37, was charged with second degree murder in the death of her twin sister, Anastasia Duval (also known as Ann Dadow), according to a probable cause document.

Alexandria allegedly made an unsuccessful attempt to leave the island and had made new flight arrangements before being arrested on Friday morning, according to the report.

The charges stem from a May 29, 2016 incident in which the Maui Police Department’s Central Dispatch received a report at around 4:41 p.m. indicating a vehicle that was traveling on the Hāna Highway (360) just south of St. Peters Church Road, collided into a wall and went over the cliff, on the rocky shoreline below.

Several witnesses observed the incident including an individual who reportedly overheard two women screaming and arguing with each other, and told authorities that the arguing appeared to be coming from within a vehicle.  According to the document, the witness observed the driver make a “sudden sharp left turn into the rock wall and continue off the cliff.”

Another witness told authorities that a white Ford Explorer was observed stopped in the middle of the road.  The witness told police that the driver of the vehicle “appeared to be in a rage,” and that the woman in the passenger seat was “pulling the hair of the female seated in the drivers seat.”  The witness reported seeing the vehicle “suddenly” accelerate.

A motor vehicle accident investigation conducted by personnel with the Maui Police Department revealed that “there were no attempts of any braking during the event,” according to the report.

Officers responding to the incident observed Anastasia Duval (Ann Dadow) lying on the rear bench seat with what appeared to be “severe head trauma,” and “bleeding to her head and face.”  According to the probable cause report, she “did not appear to be breathing,” and did not have a pulse.

The report also noted that Alexandria Duval (Allison Dadow) was seated within the drivers seat with her legs “pinned up against the steering column.” Emergency responders extricated the woman from the vehicle and transported her to the Maui Memorial Medical Center for treatment.

After her release, a police check of Alexandria’s residence at 25 Aloha ʻĀina Place in Haʻikū showed that the home appeared to be vacant and a neighbor advised police that someone was packing items from within on Wednesday, June 1, 2016, according to court documents.

The same address was used for the registration of the vehicle that was involved in the deadly incident.  The white, 2016 Ford Explorer SUV bearing a Hawaiʻi license plate, was registered to Lonnie Dickerson, according to court documents.

Checks with Airport Security and TSA revealed that Alexandria attempted to leave the island at around 9:23 p.m. on June 1, 2016, but was unable to do so.  Court documents say further checks revealed that flight arrangements were made for an evening departure on Friday, June 3, 2016 to the West Coast, but Alexandria was arrested that morning at a unit in the Maui Seaside Hotel in Kahului.

Alexandria was placed under arrest and formally charged with second degree murder.  Court records show that no bail was issued “due to her being a flight risk.”

She is due back in court this week as a preliminary hearing gets underway.
