Kapalua Tennis Garden Names New Director

Kapalua Golf & Tennis Club and Troon have selected Jason Purcell as the new director of tennis at the Kapalua Tennis Garden.

Prior to arriving at Kapalua, Purcell served as the academy director and head tennis professional at The Phoenician Resort in Scottsdale, Ariz. from May 2012 through May 2016.

During his tenure he managed a staff of seven tennis professionals.

He has won several industry recognitions and recently received the 2015 USTA National “Outstanding Facility of the Year” award.

This honor is awarded to the facility that best exemplifies service to the community and to its members through youth and adult tennis programs.

Purcell holds several professional certifications and has more than 25 years of coaching and program development experience at high performance tennis programs, country clubs and luxury resorts.

A student of US Open quarter-finalist Andrew Pattison, Jason was a four-year scholarship athlete and two-time team captain at Northern Arizona University.

Throughout his professional career, he was mentored by many world-class coaches and has trained/played with several Grand Slam champions and finalists.

“We are excited to have Jason join the Kapalua and Troon Ohana team,” said Alex Nakajima, general manager, Kapalua Golf and Tennis Club. “Jason’s experience and professional resume are very impressive. He is a great addition to our team and someone our guests will enjoy working with.”
