2nd Visitor Death in West Maui Waters on Monday

A 47-year-old visitor was found floating unresponsive in waters off of Nāpili Bay in West Maui at around 12:17 p.m. on Monday, July 18, 2016.

Maui police say the male victim has since been identified by his wife as James Guanga, 47, of California.

Authorities say the man was brought to shore and beach-goers and emergency personnel administered CPR and life-saving measures.

He was taken to the Maui Memorial Medical Center Emergency Room with a pulse but was pronounced dead during transport, police said.

It was the second visitor death reported in West Maui waters on Monday.

Police have classified the case as a miscellaneous accident and say there were no signs of foul play or witnesses to the accident.

The cause of death is unknown at this time.
