Cultural Attire Featured in Plantation Festival Fashion Show

Volunteers who own and can model traditional and modern cultural attire from various ethnic groups are encouraged to join a fashion show for the inaugural Plantation Festival on Saturday, July 23, at 2 p.m. at the Queen Kaʻahumanu Center.

Event organizers say models are encouraged to pre-register by emailing the model’s name and attire description to [email protected]. Registration will also be taken on the day of the event at the Queen Kaʻahumanu Center Guest Services desk prior to 12 p.m. There are no restrictions on age, gender or nationality to participate.

Organizers are looking for interested individuals to model Filipino, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, Puerto Rican, Hawaiian and other ethnic group attire.

A group photo is planned at the end of the show to honor the melting pot of Maui’s plantation roots as evidenced by the various ethnic groups represent in the community today.

The fashion show, which starts at 2 p.m. is part of a full-day program of activities for the Plantation Festival.  Volunteer models are encouraged to arrive dressed no later than 1 p.m.

Prizes will be awarded and winners shall be featured in Queen Kaʻahumanu Center’s publicity for the festival.
