5 More Events Left on 2016 Maui Bon Dance Schedule
The Japanese Buddhist tradition of obon continues with five more festivals left on the calendar before the season concludes next month.
The Lahiana Hongwanji Mission holds a bon dance tonight (Friday, Aug. 5, 2016) and tomorrow night (Saturday, Aug. 6, 2016) at the mission on Waineʻe Street with service at 6 p.m. and dance at 7:30 p.m.
Additional festivals are planned in Kahului, Pāʻia and Kula; with the final festival scheduled for September 10 in Hāna Town.
The group dance celebrates the custom in which participants honor the spirits of their ancestors.
