Kula Man Airlifted After Fall at Waiʻānapanapa in Hāna

Firefighters responded to the Waiʻānapanapa State Park in East Maui, for a male that was injured in a fall near the ocean at around 7:50 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 21, 2016,
Hāna firefighters arrived at 8:04 a.m. and were led to a 61-year-old Kula man that had fallen about 6 to 8 feet while fishing at the coastline.
Maui Fire Services Chief Edward Taomoto said the man sustained head injuries after falling off a ledge and landing on the lava rocks below.
Because of his injuries, the fire department helicopter was brought in to airlift the man from the rocks and transferred him to paramedics waiting at a nearby landing zone at around 8:45 a.m.
Paramedics transported the man to the Hāna Airport where he was transferred to a helicopter and medevaced to Maui Memorial Medical Center in serious condition.
A Kahului rescue crew aboard Air 1 also assisted in the incident.
