The last 1/2 mile of the Pīpīwai Trail, including the viewpoint for Waimoku Falls in the Kīpahulu District of Haleakalā National Park in East Maui, is closed due to downed trees following heavy rains this week.
Visitors can still access the first waterfall at Makahiku Falls, located a half mile past the Kīpahulu Visitor Center; as well as the Bamboo Forest, located one mile from the visitor center.
The trail after the Bamboo Forest is closed and barricades are in place.
In addition, the pools of ʻOheʻo are also closed due to high water. The Kūloa Point Trail, which goes past the pools, is open.
