Labor of Love, a union driven community service project takes place today, Saturday, Sept. 24, 2016 from 8 a.m. to noon at Wailuku Elementary School.

The give back project, organized by the Hawaiʻi State AFL-CIO’s Labor Community Services Program is an annual community service event that rotates between the islands of Oʻahu, Maui and Hawaiʻi Island.

Maui’s Wailuku Elementary School was selected by the Labor Community Services Committee of Maui which uses the Free and Reduced Lunch Program enrollment to help them select a high need DOE school.

On the following Monday, Sept. 26, a Mahalo Assembly will be held, where the school will be able to thank the supporters of this event for their contributions.

As of Sept. 23, an additional $16,000 was provided by the Hawaiʻi 3RS grant.  The funds, along with an estimated $45,316 in donations and in-kind gifts, bring the total value of contribution to this project to a little over $62,000 for Wailuku Elementary.
