Free CERT Disaster Response Training on Lānaʻi
On Lānaʻi, the County of Maui Civil Defense Agency will host free volunteer training in disaster response in October.
The sessions run from Oct. 15 through Nov. 5 on four Saturdays, and includes classroom instruction and field exercises.
Participants learn how to identify and anticipate hazards, extinguish small fires, conduct light search and rescue missions and set up disaster medical treatment areas.
The Community Emergency Response Team training, or CERT for short, features instruction from the Maui Fire and Lānaʻi Aircraft Rescue & Firefighting department personnel.
During a disaster, CERT volunteers may provide critical support to emergency responders by assisting with damage assessment information and helping victims until professional emergency responders arrive on scene.
CERT training is free to Maui County residents and is open to people of all abilities, age 18 and older. No previous experience is needed. Ages 14-17 may attend with a parent or legal guardian.
The schedule for Lānaʻi classes is from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on the following days and locations:
10/15 Saturday Lānaʻi High & Elementary School, Room U1
